The Saints - Brisbane, Riverstage 13-12-12

Last night the Saints opened what was an amazing concert
followed by the Stranglers and to top it of Blondie!
What a gig I shall post photos and video from each
band but the one band that this Australian music
blog is concerned with is the Saints.
I have long lost count how many times I have seen
Chris Bailey's Saints play over the years.
Through many line up changes album releases
whatever Band Chris puts together and fronts
puts a smile on my face
Last night was great, they played a short set of 45 mins
but played a couple of oldies and a few songs from
the brilliant new album
The only Saints song you shall hear on MMM our
local bland rock station "Just like fire would", met
with much excitement from the nostalgic
crowd but I was pleased to hear the new material.
The single King of the sun video from the
performance is at the end of this post
with a couple of other tracks from the day.

The Saints Live on WFMU 21-5-05

The Saints are marching back into town this Thursday along with two
other of my teenage fav bands all on the same lineup, the Stranglers
and Blondie. Theres been some controversy over the lineup of the Saints
but its not the original lineup from the first three albums in any form
Chris Bailey continued the name the saints after the original band
spilt and like it or not he has been doing it for a long time now!
I love Chris Bailey's songs and have been a massive fan since
high school which for me was sometime back in the early 80's
So I'm excited!

The new album is a cracker so I'm expecting a great gig!
Heres a recent interview from the Brisbane Times
The Saints will also play Woodford this year and Bailey is
to take part in a panel about music and politics.

To get in the saints mood here's alive set from 2005 recorded

Homegrown Vol2 - Various Artists

Heres another LP from Jeff, its one of the homegrown
series from the local branch of the very commercial
AusStereo network here in Australia which
goes by the name MMM or FM 104.
The station is not my cup of tea but there's some interesting
stuff on this rather 1980's album.
So here's the proof that MMM do a little for local music
here in Brisbane. The Seven Ballerinas made it
on to the 1st one of these albums
I cant find any information on the continuation
of this project so I guess they gave up on local music
after this, judging by the music they play these
days I would guess that's true.
Thanks Jeff for this piece of Brisbane music history!

Ed Kupper And Mark Dawson Old Museum 9/11/12 Brisbane

Last night in a mammoth two and half hour performance
Ed Kuepper along with Mark Dawson on drums,
Joshua Watson on violin and Rob Knaggs on cello,
Ed and the band launched Eds latest album the
wonderful Second Winter.

They played a lot of material
from the album plus a few surprises, Ed calling for
requests when they came back for an encore.
Its a rather atmospheric venue at the Old Museum
and the sound was fantastic

.
I was very nicely put on the door list as a photographer
so I took a heap, likewise Chuck some video as well.
I'm sure we shall see a few songs from that soon.
There was some great moments, I loved Collapse Board,
Electrical Strom and Eternally Yours, all extended to their
full glory. Blind Girl Stripper was fantastic to hear,
so many songs, it was a long show after all.

I got to catch up with Chuck, meet Donat  and his wife
and got to chat to Ed after the show so it was a fine night.
I took some 600 photos so I've posted some 40 of my favs.
Also check out Phils excellent photos from the night on Facebook
here
And some more fantastic shots

The first bit of video to surface from the house of Chuck

Sir Kuepper Second Winter tour starts friday!!

well this is one of the most anticpated tours of the year for me..
Mr Kuepper with Mark Dawson will be joined by Joshua Watson violin, and Rob Knaggs cello to launch the 'Second Winter' cd at the Old Museum on this friday Nov 9 .
details here - http://www.oldmuseum.org/?p=1053

The tour continues in NSW in the new year- details here - http://www.feelpresents.com/fp_tour/ed-kuepper-2/

The cd is available on Bandcamp here - http://edkuepper1.bandcamp.com/ for a very reasonable price of $10 or u can preview the tracks first to sus em out . a few quick linked below.
You can order the physical copies of this and other titles via the Prince Melon site here - http://princemelonrecords.blogspot.com.au/
Second Winter is essentially a re-working of the first Kuepper solo album Electrical Storm with a few extras added from that era. The new recordings add a new depth and ambience that make them stand tall by comparison, not intended as a replacement but as a worthy companion piece to the original recordings. I cant wait to see them live :)

Ed Kuepper article about Pig City concert 2007

Another interesting article from the words of Ed Kuepper about the then upcoming Pig City concert in 2007.

This gig would eventually be released as - Live at Pig City 2007 cd.
