 Jessica went missing from Bathurst over 15 years ago, this song is
 for Jessica's mum still living through all those unanswered questions
 due to a botched investigation, it is a story of love.

  This was the year i fell off the world, it took 6 years to climb back
   on, couldn't listen to Pink Floyd in all that time as it was playing
   at that moment in time and space.

   Yes we all know who he is, some know him as Mon santo-claus.

    Left by his girl, Chook went to drown his sorrows, it took many
    years of homelessness to do so.
    They found him in a paddock frozen out near his parents place.

   08.  On Meeting Kerrianne -

    I got to play some heartfelt concerts with Kerrianne Cox.
    This little song is my welcome to country for her when
    she came to town, sadly its
    a true reflection of my country.

   09.  A Most Unusual Man -

    I see him every now and then, but mostly when i catch his
    reflection i try not to look.

   10. A road less travelled -

   11. Rocket Man - (Tom Rapp)

    I loved this song my whole life, i was a big fan of Ray Bradbury, it
    inspired Elton John as well.

    Written in the third person, because the third person is there.

    13. Blessed Be Love -

     From 'Gamarra" to be released with Kalmadyne Goombridge's
     book of poetry later this year. Listen out for the re-awakening
     and re-building of the Wiradjuri nation, happening here ,there
     and everywhere.

Gamarra - Kalmadyne Goombridge, Matt Williamson and Friends

The incredibly talented Folk artist Matt Williamson who has
shared so much of his wonderful music has
sent me this beautiful recording that could hold its own
against anything I've heard in contemporary Australian Folk.
He has a heart for this country and for Murri, Koori
spirituality and this is an impressive work>

Gday Bob. thought you might enjoy this songcycle we've performed a few
times in bathurst. might have a crack at some crowd funding for this so
would love to get some feedback from your listeners.

 Gamarra. is a story in song of Kalmadyne Goombridge. 
 A Gamilaroi man Wiradjuri sung,  
 it is a story of the spiritual power of the Wiradjuri land 
 and the importance of culture  and tradition. 
 It is a story of feeling. Matt Williamson has used his poetry 
 and music  and the poems of Kalmadyne Goombridge, 
 to create a beautiful and powerful work, 
 that is not only entertaining and informing those who have 
 been lucky enough to catch these few performances, 
 but empowering all those involved.

Matt Williamson - Shaking Hands

Matt Williamson is one this countries great folk artists,
unsung in a country that doesn't appreciate its folk artist,
incredibly humble and more than generous giving away
him wonderful music.
This is a beautiful album a perfect recording, I'd think it
was an studio recording rather than live radio preformance.
Intimate acoustic, brilliant work from all the musicians.
This is the music I'd expect to hear on the radio heaven
Matt sings of in the 3rd song.

First Breath Of Air - Matt Williamson

Second is "First Breath Of Air", this one was on the prefered
playlist of radio 2MCE fm for 2004 it received a review so
rather than say anything myself i'll quote John Walker.

" First breath of air ". was recorded in a two hour session on
the verandah of pix records in Queensland in the spring of 2002,
it is an album of unique and beautifully crafted songs by Australian
tunesmith Matt Williamson. the title track is a reflection on a life
fractured by depression and is autobiographical in nature,
it acts as a perfect introduction to an album that is a poignant
and heartfelt observation of humanity and the universal themes
of belief of culture of nature and of life and death. These truths are
observed with insightful lyrics and a style of singing and playing
that is so honest and unique it is impossible to draw comparisons.
Matt plays an old nylon string guitar held together with aroldite
and a couple of five dollar mouthorgans, he sings with a sense of
devil may care inner reflection, his guitar playing has a percussive
style that somehow fully orchestrates each tune, creating an album
full of atmosphere and intensity.
Song by song it is full of gems,
"Loaded Man with a Gun" a statement on american ideoligy,
"Trees" a wonderful contempory take on Joyce Kilners famous poem,
"Damn it all" the loss of a friend through drug abuse,
"Truck" and "Waiting For The Rain" are meditative and beautiful,
made up on the spot during the recording session,
"Comes the Time" is lyrical and profound it gives an insight
into not only a unique and wonderful singer/songwriter
but a great australian philosopher, Matt Williamson.

John Williamson is a very generous soul who has shared
much of his music both here and on his My Space site,
his music has always incited some of the most excited
comments and amazement on how he has remained
unknown.

Hi Bob, I've put together another couple of albums

It was such a nice surprise to see little songs up on your blogspot
and I hope people enjoy it and I thank you very much.
Its so nice to be able to share my songs with people, the cds I
make are all handmade jobs and the only ones in circulation
I have sold while busking, and I dont do much of that anymore.
Heres another little collection for you hope you enjoy.

Its so good to see someone bringing Matthews songs to a wider
audience.I saw him play at the wiradjuri river dreaming
festival here in Bathurst, he is a great peformer and amazing
story teller.I first met him in 1987 he was setting up emergency
accommodation for prisoner release and for visiting families
to the bathurst gaol, he became heavily involved in
reconciliation in the local area, but I think it broke his heart.
He had a close friendship with one of the local wiradjuri elders,
the old black man, who features in many of his songs.
His songs are full of characters and events that are a very
real part of his life, and they become a reoccuring theme, so
his songs are like one story one song.
What many people may not know is matthews personal heritage.
a great, great grandfather [George Yates] who arrived at
Morton Bay in the 1840s with a violin he had learnt to play
on the voyage over. After arriving, being shocked by the
treatment of the local people by the new settlers,
George went bush and ended up traveling through the back
country with a young companion from one of the South East
Queensland tribes, ending up in Victoria. Georges son
[George Yates jnr] arrived in the bathurst area after gold was
discovered at hill end. John Meredith states in his collection of
"folk songs of ustralia and the men and women who played
them" that Henry Lawson in his story "the songs they used
to sing" heard bullock-driver Jimmy Nowlett singing with
gusto the song "all around my hat" to a George Yates tune.
The third generation of this wonderful musical family can
be heard in the Joe Yates collection archived in the national
library of Australia, with Joe at the age of 91 performing some
150 tunes and songs from his father and
brothers Tom, Bill and Arthur. Bill yYates went to the
Kimberleys and lived and worked with a local tribe there for
43 years. when he died they put him in a canoe and let him
float of into the bye and bye, sending home his only
possessions, a coat a pipe and a ten pound note.
Matthews mother Ena Yates, another wonderful musician
and singer, carried on this wonderful tradition,
this is where Matthew got his grounding in the art of song.
his father Jack Williamson was the last surviving member
of the Ben Chiffly cabinate.
When he died a few years back Matthew said to me that we
not only destroy the most natural and oldest living culture
on earth, but that we continue to destroy our own.
Over the years I have known Matthew he has always given his
time and his home to those members of our society that most
of us choose to ignore. In recent years Matthew himself has
become reliant on welfare after years of hard work and raising
a family, yet he still carries himself with a quiet dignity and
a sense of humility.
I believe he is a true folk song writer in that his songs are so
contempary and as I understand it, all of the music of his that
you have posted has been put together by some wonderful
people on nothing more than a handshake,
he gives special mention to a true friend, pix vane-mason a
recording engineer from Maleny.
it would be an honour for me to sit down with Matthew over
the coming months and help him to archive his songs
and if you are willing, to share them with a wider audience.
There are some you have here that I have never heard,
and there are many I have heard that are not here.
So i will finish up with a verse from one of my favorites from
the late 80s,

"Lucky Man"

So what of our forefathers
tied up in chains
do we feel weve redeemed them
with the things we have gained
now what of our brothers
held up in gaol
life can be hard
yet its easy to fail
lets hope there redemption
comes soon at our hand
cause the only true freedom
is found in each others hands.

This fantastic collection of songs was sent to me by this
brilliant and generous artist Matt Williamson.
Beautiful acoustic folk blues which is intrinsically
Australian, this is a name which should be well
known. Check out Matt on Myspace Here

The songs you are hearing have come about due to the
collaboration and support of the many people who have
come to hear the songs of Matt Williamson.
Over the last half a dozen years Matthew has
been invited into several studios along the eastern side
of Australia usually from being heard at blackboard
concerts, busking and in more recent times at venues
where he has performed. The archive of Matthews songs
is now reported to be in the many hundreds,
but it is the timeless and profound quality of the songs
that has drawn the attention of many in the music
industry and within the arts. Matthews songs have been
described as pictures painted with a thousand words,
drawing a vision of a truly Australian landscape where
the issues of cultural and social uncertainty are tackled
in songs such as 'old black man', 'bad cousin to my own
brother' and 'song from a broken man', in a way that is
so personally honest and yet socially accurate that it
places Matthew in the same company as 'Woody Gutherie',
'Roy Harper' and 'Archie Roach'.
