Atomic Beat Squad - Hurt b/w Hands Of Love 7"

Dennis, who is putting together a Brisbane electronic music
project at the moment has sent us this rare gem.
A 7" single from the Atomic Beat Squad released back in
1990 on Sundown records

Let me hand over to Dennis

And thank you Dennis for this fine post!

This is the Hurt 7" released by Atomic Beat Squad (ABS - formerly
Tainted Violets) in 1990 on the Sundown label.
The blurb from the Time Off band guide of 1988 for Tainted Violets reads:
"Synth band with Bauhaus and Ultravox influences. Finalists in this
year's Rock Awards. Come with big wraps."
I seem to remember ABS vying to be signed to a major label at the time.

A couple of requests

I have received a couple requests lately which Im passing on to the SSS
readership. 1st  Scot is after Redgum stuff for a documentary he is hoping
to do, sounds like a promising project so all you Redgum fans out there
this is for you.
Over to scot

I’m after photos and videos of Redgum, especially anything that
people may have taken at gigs through the years.
I would digitise any material and return it to the owner with a
digitised copy for their own use.
So they’d be helping me with an important cultural project as
well as preserving their own memorabilia. Who knows, this
project may even convince Sony to finally reissue the old
 Redgum albums on CD…

You can email Scot on this address

digihed@netspeed.com.au

The 2nd request is for memories, music images whatever you have on Brisbane
electronic music
Ill give you the whole request as it came from Dennis

Hi Bob - thanks for writing. Nice work on the blog too.
We're working on a major retrospective of electronic music production in Brisbane
over the last 20-30 years, and need to make sure we cover as much territory as possible.
We need to look back in time at who was active with electronic music here during the 80s,
as we started in 1994. Of course we know about Boxcar, but bands like Pork etc
who were part of the scene well before that.

In your blog travels, own memory, tapes and 7" that you've got in your collection,
and the recollections of your fans, we need want to dig up band names, contacts,
and ideally any existing sources of tracks for this genre.

The project is in the early days, but attached is more information. All help will be credited.
Also attached is my running list so far but its mostly 90's-onwards...

Regards
Dennis

If you can help leave a comment here and I shall get back to you
I wont post any comments with email address's but I will froward you
contact details for denis.
Thanks

Robert Forster - Robert (live 24th Oct 2012)

There is that old adage that if you can play a song on acoustic it will stand up to any future production tampering as a worthy song in it's own right...
So.. to see Mr Forster stand b4 an intimate crowd (Visy theatre holds 200 max) and just bash out such an impressive back catalogue with only an acoustic in hand to protect him from the mob was an impressive evening indeed...
Karin gets up for a few songs during the encore to play some fiddle but this night was all about Mr Forster and his gift of great song writing..
This recording is from the second of two nights at the Visy theatre- Powerhouse in Brisbane.
I didn't get any photos from the night - powerhouse are a bit anal that way...so borrowed some art from willy Blake for the covers..

Crime And The City Solution touring..

Well I didn't think I would ever get to see this band live, but Thursday night in Sydney and Sunday in Brisbane at the HI-Fi they will be finishing up their Australian leg of a few months of touring.
From all accounts the ATP gig in Melbourne was excellent.
Rumours of Mick Harvey getting up onstage as well..
facebook details here - https://www.facebook.com/CrimeandtheCitySolution?fref=ts

I found a really nice recording of Crime .. from October last year at the good folk at New York City Taper -
you can download mp3 or flac here  - http://www.nyctaper.com/2012/10/crime-the-city-solution-october-22-2012-music-hall-of-williamsburg-flacmp3streaming/

Jimmy And The Boys - Teddy Boys Picnic

The second studio album from Jimmy and the Boys was the 1981,
Teddy Boys' Picnic.
The band then briefly disbanded in January 1982
and Jones moved to the theatre stage, playing the dual roles
of Eddie and Dr. Scott in the Australian revival of
The Rocky Horror Show.
In mid-1982 the band reformed for a national tour,
which resulted in a live album, In Hell with Your Mother
but they disbanded soon after.

According to rock music historian, Ian McFarlane,
the group's performances "mixed S&M trappings,
sex shop props, mock rape and other depravities
with sub-Zappaesque humour, hard rock, jazz,
reggae and disco"

Jimmy and the Boys - Not Like Everybody Else

`
Back in 1979 this little gem hit the record stores,
they even were on countdown. What I didnt know is
the classic title track of this album was a cover of a
kinks song. Found that out some time later.
Described as a shock rock band and fronted by
the flamboyant Ignatius Jones these guys released
three Lps.
In May 1981 they scored their only top 10 single with
"They Won't Let My Girlfriend Talk to Me"
written by Split Enz front man Tim Finn.
