My Personal Top 20 Aussie songs.

Over on the Ausrock Forum in the music discussion section
theres a thread going called "Your top 20 Aussie Songs"
I've managed to compile all my Favorites into one
handy dandy folder so you can hear all these
great songs, I suppose it comes as no surprise that
there is many vastly different lists from a diverse
group such as the posters on Ausrock.
My list would seem to reflect my age and musical
taste described as unusual yesterday by a fellow I
work with on occasion. I'd love to hear your list of
favorite Aussie songs and see the diverse nature
of the readers here and how many songs keep
popping up. So compile away and do listen
to my selection and tell me what you think.

1 The Apartments - The Shyest Time
2 The Saints - Swing for the Crime
3 Go-Betweens - Cattle and Cane
4 Ed Kuepper - Electrical Storm

5 Kev Carmody - Thou Shall Not Steal
6 Boys Next Door - Shivers
7 The Flaming Hands - Its Just That I Miss Someone

8 The Triffids - Wide Open Road

9 Riptides - 77 Sunset Strip

10 Redgum - I Was Only 19

11 Shane Howard( Goanna Band) - Solid Rock

12 The Birthday Party - Release The Bats

13 Radio Birdman - Aloha Steve and Danno

14 No Fixed Address - Sunrise

15 Not Drowning Waving - Willow Tree

16 Laughing Clowns - Sometimes

17 Neil Murray - Good Light In Broome

18 Died Pretty - DC

19 Dave Warner - Mugs Game

20 JFK & The Cuban Crisis - Gotham City

Its hard to stop at 20 and the number restriction
means a lot of songs miss out, also I tried spread
out the band selection so as many as possible could
fit in.

What's the password?

I'm making a CD of Oz music for some friends on a zine circular, apart from a few more indie efforts from the Hummingbirds or Even As We Speak it's a lot like yours. If you like I could put up the tracklist when it's done... like you, having trouble cutting it at 20!

Cheers

Hello Bob

Couple of days after my last post I managed to kill my mp3 player, so haven't been able to make my compilation. Got most of the tracks back now and have a couple on CDs back in Oz, but this is my top 20 - only three from yours but one or two other song by same group:

1 - Masters Apprentices - Turn Up Your Radio
2 - The Triffids - Wide Open Road
3 - AC/DC - It's A Long Way To The Top If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll
4 - Kev Carmody - From Little Things Big Things Grow
5 - The Church - The Unguarded Moment
6 - Even As We Speak - Blue Suburban Skies
7 - Ed Kuepper - Electrical Storm
8 - The Hummingbirds - Alimony
9 - The Go-Betweens - Cattle & Cane
10 - Hunters & Collectors - Throw Your Arms Around Me
11 - Goanna Band - Solid Rock
12 - The Saints - Know Your Product
13 - Redgum - I Was Only 19 (A Walk In The Light)
14 - The Eastern Dark - Johnny And Dee Dee
15 - Paul Kelly & the Messengers - Deeper Water
16 - You Am I - Soldiers
17 - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - The Ship Song
18 - Hoodoo Gurus - Like Wow! Wipeout
19 - Weddings Parties Anything - A Tale They Won't Believe
20 - Archie Roach - They Took The Children Away

Sure was difficult cutting it to 20. I'd love to have put Dave Warner's Mugs Game (which I'd not heard til I downloaded your list) in but it's very long.

Will rapidshare it here when I've got all 20 tracks, still missing Kev Carmody and Even As We Speak... can anyone help?

cheers

Lovin' your work, Bob! As a remedy for homesickness when I first moved to Melbourne it was great to find lots of Brisbane 7" vinyl at AuGoGo or Collectors Corner or even bloody Myers at Bendigo (Thanks For The Fish!)and I share your enthusiasm for the under-produced and underappreciated - your blog reads well and looks great, and I'm really enjoying the opportunity to contribute in the commentary where I can.
