Ed Kuepper and the Oxley Creek Boys - Live

I'm certain I've seen Ed Kuepper play live more than anyone else,
these days he plays here quite often living in Brisbane.
This is classic later day Ed, I saw him play a gig at a venue
called "The Healer "(it was in this old church) around this
period and this is how he was sounding.
The guitar sound hasn't changed much since the mid 90's
when Ed took to the brand new Roland VG 8 virtual guitar
system, this recording shows how he uses this tool.
Have a listen and marvel at how all sounds apart from
vocals, drums and bass come from his guitar.
I remember at the Healer gig I asked his roady,
who had restrung and tuned Eds guitar after a broken
string, what tuning Ed used. I'd been watching him
play closely that night and I hadn't seen him
change tuning and I knew he wouldn't be able
to do what he was doing in standard tuning.
The roady told me it was just standard,
a couple of years later when I got the same
guitar processor I discovered that you could
change tunings by pushing a button on the
VG8 and I knew how he had done it.
Well guitar mysteries aside this is a great
CD, Play it loud,
this ones a request for bottlelow,
enjoy.

another great post Bob, good to see you "doing it for yourself" in the blogsphere and sharing great aussie music with the world

i saw Mick Harvey supporting PJ Harvey at QPAC recently and he had a "toy" (which from my distant seat looked like a pod) which was also changing the tuning on his guitar ... maybe he had a VG8 too?

that was another great, if short, set

keep up the good work!

I would have liked to see pj but I missed it, i have a season pass for the brisbane sound shows however.
The VG 8 works by useing a hex pickup,
now you can buy guitars with this pickup built in or you can mount it on your guitar and it has this little red light that you can see.
The hex pickup processes all 6 stings individually and you can run each string through different effects, thats how it can change the turning, you program what you want and then call it up. Quite a few artists use em, if you see ed play you'll know what that little red lights all about now.
There isn't a lot of processes that perform this task, roland has the cheapest and most portable.
Thats not all it does, it has extensive guitar and amp modeling as well as keyboard and very strange effects, which ed uses so very well.
I could talk of ages about this so I better stop
