The Models - Local and or General

The Models were a great band one of my favorites and very quirky, at least till
James Freud joined them and they became, well very poppy.
Don't get me wrong James Freud was a fav of mine too (and Ive got this solo lp of his
to rip one day), but Sean Kelly was an amazing vocalist.
I saw them in 1983 when they played support for Mr Bowie here at Lang Park,
I don't think James was with em then I could be wrong, But I did see them play
somewhere like the St Lucia Refectory later and He was with them then. the girls
in the audience wouldn't let you forget.
This Lp is tremendous I love all the songs, but its more like the feel of the album
that I like and "Unhappy" is one of the best pop songs ever.
Its the non-conventional approach musically and Sean Kelly most non-conventional
vocals that make this and all the early Models.
This was their 2nd Lp released in 1981.

Tracks

1. Local And/Or General
2. Truth About Truth About Scientists
3. Unhappy
4. Telstar
5. Dying for My Country at the War
6. Drive and Reflex
7. Bantam Had
8. Man O' Action
9. Drunk in the House
10. Tearing Hair Out
11. Rate of Change

Great, thanks! Have their first but not this - been wanting to hear it!

I'm going to think of some requests as well...!

Is there anything you're looking for? I have some Aus vinyl waiting to be ripped that I haven't seen on any blog yet.

You should enjoy this record. Let me know what you've got I may have it, other than that if it fits in I'll be happy to post it and requests are a great idea. Even if I can't help someone else might.

Thanks mate, been looking for ages - nice blog!

If I'm not mistaken, "Unhappy" is written and sung by Mark Ferrie, the bassist.

And it's my least favourite song on the CD, can't hold a candle to "Truth about Truth", "Drive & Reflex", or the title track, which is in my opinion, one of the best songs the Models ever did :p

Someone gave me a copy of the UK release, which has different versions of "Two cabs to the toucan" and "Atlantic Romantic" than those on the Cut Lunch EP. But I think the Australian release of "Local &/ General" is best.

thanks for the info matt, did you know Mark Ferrie is the bassist in the rock wiz band on SBS, at lest i
think its him.
Local and or general is a bloodly good record but

Is Rockwiz the show where Sean sang "I hear motion" with Mark on bass? I can't tune in, since I live in Singapore, but there's a clip of that performance on youtube that not only shows that Sean can still sing, but also that he's aged much better than James...

Thats the one and he did the duet at the end with Anne McCue singing under
the milky way. Sean does so tasty guitar work on that one. I know what you mean about james aging badly, must have been all the booze

I have just stumbled on your blog while looking for old models records - my youth seems to be slipping in to the "rarities" box these days. All the upload links have expired, any chance to re uploading this one more time?
cheers

Hi Bob, Col here, Thanks heaps for re upping the ep and L & or G. I have another request I find it hard to believe has not yet been made. That for, an upload of "pleasure of your company" if you have it (I'm guessing you do) imo, the last good Models record b4 James popped 'em out - in more ways than one perhaps?
NB: I noticed you're just a month older than me, no wonder we have similar taste! '64 was a great year, wasn't it.....Cheers, Col.

Golly, the last link actually still works. This album is an old "flame" of mine. It really set me in the right direction for listening to more quirky and unusually music as a teen. Their "Cut Lunch" EP was even stranger. There's something unique about Sean Kelly's sense of craziness as a vocalist and lyricist, not unlike Robert Forster really. Thanks - looking forward to hearing it again as it's been 20 years or more...
